North West view of the old market house, pulled down in december 1852. Sun Street is on the extreme left and the Red Lion public house on the right. The ground floor of this building was open, where the market traders stood under to sell their wares. Their customers stood round the outside of the building. There was a room above where meetings etc. could be held. This picture was drawn by J. Upton, c1850.
