River Lea

The River Lea, Powdermill Lane. Became redundant after the Lea Navigation Canal was opened in 1777. Powdermill Lane was the main entrance to the North Site, Royal Gunpowder Factory. The Course of the river was altered when Abbey View by-pass was constructed. This picture c1900.
