I spent many happy hours on my granddads allotment; he had a ricketty shed to sit in and whenever I smell old potato sacks my mind always flies back to sitting in the shed on the edge of the allotments and watching granddad dig up potatoes. The whole area of allotments was kept neat and tidy with short cut grass pathways seperating the different peoples vegetable patches, there was quite a community feel to going to work on the allotment. We used to go in for an afternoon cup of tea to his old friend Mrs Smith whose house on Greenfield Street backed onto the allotments. Warm, happy and contented days of spending time with my beloved granddad, John Albert Brooker.
